Most other organizations have the same preferences although they may have a team for considering or even evaluating rumors too. Those in highly regulated business domains are forced to weight official statements higher than rumors due to liabilities and risk management. As long as you're not working in a highly regulated business domain, you and your organization are free to weight higher either rumors or statements for their update policy. In your job role and with your years of professional experience, you know how to search and how to distinguish between rumors, statements and facts.
